(Those of you who despise Legos can breathe after this post.)

Mini Legoland illustrates Important Parts of the United States and Florida, in Legos. As usual "Important Parts" of the United States means New York City (really impressive), Washington DC (ditto), San Francisco (in a sad, sad, sign on our times, at least four separate tourists identified the Golden Gate Bridge as the Brooklyn Bridge, and this on a day with hardly any tourists. I kid you not) Las Vegas and Pirates. (Separate from Las Vegas.) Florida was represented by Miami Beach, selected Miami buildings and Little Havana, Key West, Tampa, Panama City, St. Augustine, Tallahassee and the space shuttle. (Jacksonville, it's not that the state doesn't love you. It's that we never remember you exist.)

A few selected pictures, since alas, most of mine (including the one of the Obamas' little Lego dog) did not come out.

For [profile] caligatia:

Every few minutes the space shuttle "launches," meaning it puffs smoke in the air, which is really a lot less cool than it sounds.

It's always a disaster in San Francisco.

Take a careful look at this one.

Yes, that's a little Lego person in a wheelchair -- one of many, along with at least two blind Lego people. I saw a Lego wheelchair user with a dog, Lego wheelchair users getting pushed, Lego wheelchair users propelling themselves. Very cheering.

Lego pirates!

These pictures do not convey some of the marvelous attention to detail -- the little Lego pigeons, the Lego bit with the dead guy almost making it to the water in the Vegas desert just a few steps away, a vulture lurking over him, the little Lego mermaid caught in Panama Beach, and so on. Great stuff. (Also, lots of Lego Santa Clauses which I understand are removed for most of the year but which had Santa on the White House and less probably on the Capitol building and soaring through New York City.)

You are not getting pictures of the legendary gardens because by the time we reached those, I had about had it with cameras. Ditto for the water ski show. You are also not getting pictures of the goat milk fudge (not made at the park, but made more or less locally) because, um, I already ate some.

Anyway, a good day, although by the time we got home, I was pretty miserable. My attempt to quietly annihilate all existence was, however, completely interrupted by a freaking 80 yard touchdown pass in sudden death overtime, an event that caused entirely too much excitement in this household and even sent a cat into howling, like THANKS TEBOW, turning my previous total indifference to the Broncos and Steelers into complete hatred. Which also explains why I now have to head back to bed.
