Castle, I love you. You are my mind-candy program, my show I watch when I do not want to do any thinking whatsoever. You are generally thoughtless, pointless, and filled with Very Large Plot Holes, Conveniences, and Things Actual Pathologists Cannot Do, but I love you anyway.

But.



People who nearly freeze to death do not emerge from their frozen condition with perfect skin. Trust me on this one (she says, taking a moment to look sadly at two toes that were never the same after a certain incident of Not Thinking that we shall not get into because it is neither an inspiring nor flattering story). Also, people who are nearly freezing to death do not position themselves to make the camera happy or leave their hands exposed. Instead, they move together chest to chest, insert hands under armpits, and yes, drag the plastic sheeting off the corpse and over themselves to maintain the warmth. I know you think that I am just a silly Florida person, but I actually do remember these sorts of things. In fact remembering these sorts of things is one reason I live in Florida.

On a related note, Castle, nobody just reaches and pulls out wires from a bomb like that. That's just silly.

Ok, carry on! I'm sure our fierce and totally superficial love will continue despite this.

As I watched I wondered if they would be better off sitting on the corpse than on the frozen metal of the freezer.

::nods:: We shall not speak of this again (nor shall we speak of someone who might once upon a time have had wet hands when reaching into the freezer and gotten a pinky finger stuck to said freezer.)

Obviously, everyone else has done it wrong. Only Rick Castle has the style and panache to pull that off, both literally and figuratively. The smirk makes all the difference.

On the comments on the LJ crosspost to this I noted that actually freezing people would have pulled the plastic sheeting off the corpse and turned that into a semi-shelter.

Honestly, if they'd wrapped themselves in the plastic sheeting (there seemed to be enough for both of them), they probably wouldn't have had the hypothermia issues at all - given that they escaped without any frostbite (!) and diagnosed with only mild hypothermia (!) (even though they had fallen asleep, which generally means severe hypothermia) they couldn't have been in there that long.

And I cannot believe that after the whole hypothermia thing, mild or not, that any medical professionals allowed Beckett and Castle to stand outside in relatively cool/cold weather (everyone was wearing jackets) without AT LEAST putting hot drinks in their hands - and yes, I know they were on IVs for a bit, but hypothermia REALLY dehydrates people and you are supposed to force liquids down them.

And yeah, I'm making too big a deal of this for a TV show - but it was so off it honestly threw me out of the episode, especially since both leads are Canadian and should know better. And it's not as if the "when you half freeze, your skin gets red and swollen or icy and white and you need to stay warm and drink a lot" is uncommon knowledge or anything.
