For a few moments today I didn't actually think I was going to see this; a usual 15 minute drive took M and I a solid forty-five minutes, thanks to rain, construction and a traffic light with a decided attitude problem. (You all know the type.) Anyway, we did make it, just in time to pick up a soda and see the last couple of trailers.

I generally hate or get deeply bored by Quentin Tarentino films (don't bother to persuade me) so I was surprised to find myself genuinely enjoying this one, possibly because for once it wasn't simply an irritating attempt to to get cameras in a place where they could make violence look pretty, partly because of the unexpected twist on Cinderella near the end, and because this time, I found myself genuinely wondering where exactly the film was going to go, other than the expected violence, which, well, yes, it's still a Tarentino film, but at least this time around the violence serves the plot rather than the other way around. And I suspect that Christoph Waltz, who plays a charming and horrifically evil Nazi with a taste for streudel and cigarettes and a complete lack of concern for environmental issues and hardwood floors, will be up for an Oscar nomination in the fall.

And to backlog a bit on movies - I just haven't been in a blogging mood - I'm gathering my thoughts on District 9, which started well, but did not continue well; finally saw Wild Wild West and was literally appalled into silent shock by the awesomeness of its badness -- oh, Kenneth Branaugh, what happened to you?; and decided I'd definitely like the two hours of my life wasted on The Goods back, please.
