The End of Pushing Daisies
Jun. 14th, 2009 10:02 pmJust finished watching the final episode of Pushing Daisies.
Sniffle.
Did anyone else feel - and perhaps this was just me - that the last minute or so was hastily redone after the writers/producers heard about the cancellation? Because, honestly, it felt -- off. Something I've never said about this show before. The show enjoys satisfying endings, yes. The cow and the macaroni and cheese bit was amusing. And yet. Did anyone really see Olive Snook leaving and building up a semi-rival business so quickly? Emerson's daughter returning with no further plot twists and complications? Lily not getting a chance to snark over seeing Chuck again?
My guess - and this is only a guess -- the episode was meant to end with Chuck seeing Lily and Vivian again, and then ending; the rest was thrown in by editing and Jim Dale's voicework and the use of a couple of discarded scenes from earlier episodes, to give some kind of ending to a show that wasn't meant to end just then. And while I can understand that, to an extent -- I almost feel more cheated by a rushed, vaguely unsatisfactory ending.
Then again, it's quite possible that I'm only saying this because I am not at all reconciled to the loss of this show. In fact, probable.
DVDs soon.
