Head thunk
Nov. 21st, 2011 09:44 amUsually, I'm all about the post office.
This is not a usually.
So, early last week I was informed that I would be getting a certified letter containing a check. This is always a plus, so, I checked, we estimated that the letter would arrive Friday or Monday, so I hung around, waiting to sign for it. The tracking information for a considerably less important package (a Christmas present) also informed me that this package was out for delivery, November 21, 2011, 8:22 am. (Yay internet. Usually.) So, all happy, I waited by the door, and watched as the post office guy drove up, stuffed some things in the mailbox, and continued on.
Oh well, no check. But, package, right?
So I headed out to the mailbox to find:
1) Rather odd offers for credit cards (my credit rating sucks; no one should be offering me a platinum card of any kind)
2) The usual bills
3) Catalogs
4) No package
5) A pink slip for the certified letter saying "Sorry We Missed You!"
Sorry we missed you? You didn't even come to the door!
But far more problematic was the back of the slip, which told me that to pick up the certified letter, I have to go to the Colonial Drive office -- AKA the State Road 50 office, AKA the only one of the three nearby post offices that I cannot reach on my own.
Sigh. So, now I'm on hold with the Post Office redelivery service...

Date: 2011-11-22 05:30 am (UTC)Wow. Is there, perhaps, a reason the USPS has been failing for as long as it has been? I know the recent crisis is sparked by some bullshittery outside their control, but still.

Date: 2011-11-22 01:38 pm (UTC)The thing with the package was that I didn't even get a slip, and it was definitely out for delivery -- but since a signature is required, he didn't bother to try to get one.
Grr.
He should be by in the next hour. Let's hope. Otherwise I will have to get them to hold the stuff at the post office that I can't reach and hope I can get a ride tomorrow :( While dealing with Thanksgiving traffic.

Date: 2011-11-22 01:42 pm (UTC)Service does seem to vary greatly from location to location. My mail service in Hollywood was not good, but the mail service in Pompano was outright terrible -- I didn't get a LOT of mail, often important things like checks, IRS notices, packages of books -- I gave up trying to get anything delivered there.
I have to say that until yesterday the mail service here has been excellent at both the apartment complex and here, but yesterday, failure.
